Before You Build
The following is list of items to consider before you
build:

- Will the new electric service be for a full-time
permanent residence, business, or other use?
- Will temporary electric service be required for
construction power? If so the member-consumer shall provide a temporary
meter service which meets or exceeds the specifications provided by the
CMEC Engineering Department.
- Would you like to have overhead electrical
facilities or underground electric service?
- What type of electrical equipment will be used?
- What type of heating and cooling system will
be installed?
- Will the water heater be electric or gas?
- Will there be any small or large motors installed at
this location?
- Will there be other structures such as a pole barn
that will require electrical facilities?
- Will there be sensitive electronic equipment such as
a computer, VCR, or microwave oven at this location? If so have you
considered installing surge protection equipment at the meter or load
center?
- Do you plan to install a backup generator? If so
CMEC requires the installation of a generator transfer switch which
complies with the National Electrical Code and any other applicable codes.
- The member-consumer is responsible for obtaining all
necessary right-of-way easements for the electrical facilities.
- The member-consumer is responsible for providing a
clear path for the new electrical facilities.
- The CMEC Engineering Department reserves the right
to spot the location of the meter.
- The member-consumer shall use a meter socket
provided by the CMEC Engineering Department.
- Will the load center be located immediately
adjacent to the meter socket?
Note: The CMEC
Engineering Department will require a main disconnect switch to be located
on the outside of the building next to the meter socket, if more than
direct coupling conduit nipple is required to route the conductors through
the exterior building wall to the load center.
- Will energy efficient construction standards be
considered?
